Maya Calica Collins is a published author of two novels, and has edited and illustrated a children’s book. She fine-tuned her storytelling skills as an editor for magazines such as Cosmopolitan Philippines, Seventeen Philippines, Candy, Female Singapore and Smile, the inflight magazine of Cebu Pacific Air. She is a self-confessed late bloomer when it comes to art (and many other things, but that’s another story). Now based in New Zealand with her husband, she pursues her passion for storytelling using words, illustrations and fabric. In September 2014, she launched Sew and Tell in Manila. The show exhibited her narrative embroidery which featured 12 short stories expressed as works of art. Maya spends her days sipping too much coffee, teaching art to kids, sailing with her husband, doodling in her sketchbooks, and dreaming up adventures for her alter ego Andie, who travels the world in a red beret with a cat named Monty (a tuxedo cat who looks just like her own cat). She hopes to inspire other late bloomers to infuse joy into their busy lives through her drawings, art prints, fabric creations, creativity classes and books.
