My dear friend Mae Young has a yearly project of printing a date book for family and friends. That project was on hold for a few years till now – and i was honoured that she asked me to do the cover. She wanted Colossians 3:12 as the cover theme: Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
The inspiration was instantaneous because I know Mae well – her love for God, dogs and nature are a big part of who she is. So is set out to sketch in pencil, then inked in the outline. And then using my Derwent inktense watercolour pencils, I added a wash of colour.
Should you decide to make an artwork as a present, choose an acid-free paper. Then once you’ve coloured your work, spray a working fixative like Krylon working fixative to prevent smudging and to seal in the pigments.
