Thanks to the influence of my crafty sister Rina and friends Apol and Itsy, I’ve decided to experiment with fabrics and cardboard to come up with the stuff I love: blank notebooks and journals. I realized I bought two last week just to jot down my story ideas, thoughts and doodles. So here are my first attempts at piecing scraps of fabric, cardboard (from an old Asics shoebox) and paper together. I obviously haven’t gotten over my affection for ladybugs, so I embellished one journal with a ladybug button and another with a ladybug pendant I made when I was still in Singapore. For the apple-print journal, I illustrated the ladybug and printed it out on a high quality printer, then mounted it on a pendant. I tied it with a felt cord. The inner page — the one with the watercolor print — is from an old Louis Vuitton travel journal given to me while I was a travel editor for Female magazine. It’s probably the most expensive part of this project!
Next step: To learn how to use a sewing machine (does sign of the cross).
