I bought this dainty blue and white milk jug from a flea market in Basel, Switzerland for four euros. It was a hot day in July, so right after our little shopping spree, my sister Marie and I decided to take a dip in the Rhine River.
I changed into my bikini, then tucked this milk jug between the folds of my black maxi dress, and pushed it deep inside a flotation bag with my flip-flops, handbag, and valuables. I clung on to this waterproof bag with one hand and with the other took the hand of my sister. Together we jumped into the cold waters of the Rhine, allowing the current to carry us down the river as we both gurgled and squealed with delight (and a little fear for me). When we finally got back on dry land, I was glad to find my little milk jug in perfect condition. Not a chip despite our mildly wild, wet adventure.
Since then, I’ve used this milk jug to pour fresh milk into cups of coffee, to store condensed milk (for decadent secret cravings), and as a gravy dispenser (for special lamb roast dinners that require a truly pretty jug).
Oh, how I love this milk jug.
